Running one of the few non-advertiser-supported social networks, UK-based badoo offers standard social networking features and allows it users to pay to make themselves more popular across badoo’s network. While the social networking features available to the site are similar to those offered by MySpace and Facebook, the site’s mostly international user base is similar to the makeup of Hi5.

Much of badoo’s focus is on offering “multilog” services, their term for allowing users to chronicle their lives via sharing of various media forms, including video, photos, and text. In addition, if badoo users want to have their entries and profiles be placed at the top of badoo’s search results to help them gain popularity, they can purchase badoo’s Rise Up! feature to push their identities to the top of the site’s search results. The feature costs about $1 or 1 unit of the currency for the user’s native country, and can be reordered to maintain top positioning over time.
