Jean-Pierre Roth served as a Governor of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Switzerland from 2001 to 2009. Jean Roth served as Chairman of the Governing Board and Head of Department I at Swiss National Bank from January 1, 2001 to January 1, 2010 and served as its President of Governing Board until January 1, 2010. From 1979 to 1985, he
served various posts at the Swiss National Bank. He joined the Economic Staff of Swiss National Bank in 1979. During more than fifteen years, he worked in various sectors of Bank in Berne and Zurich.
Jean Roth has been the Chairman of Banque Cantonale de Geneve SA since July 01, 2010. He has been Chairman of Geneva Cantonal Bank since July 2010. He served as the Chairman of the Governing Board of Swiss National Bank from 2001 to 2009. He served as Chairman of Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel from March 1, 2006 to March 2009.
He served as Vice Chairman of the Governing Board of Swiss National Bank from 1996 to 2001. He has been a Director of Swiss Re Ltd., since April 1, 2010, Swatch Group AG since 2010 and Swiss Re Germany AG since April 2010. He has been a Director of Nestlé S.A., since 2010.
Jean Roth served as a Director of Bank for International Settlements from 2001 to March 2009. At the end of March 2007, he was designated Switzerland's representative in the Financial Stability Forum, an international body of representatives of ministries of finance, central banks and regulatory authorities to promote cooperation in overseeing the international financial system.
He held lectureships at the University of Geneva and at the Institute Universitaire de Hautes Etudes Internationales. Mr. Roth completed his studies in Economics at the University of Geneva from 1966 to 1966 and Doctoral degree (thesis: 'La politique monétaire suisse, son efficacité en changes fixes et flottants') at the Institut Universitaire de Hautes Etudes Internationales (The Graduate Institute of International Studies) Geneva in 1975.
He was awarded a Bursary by the Swiss National Science Foundation to pursue Postdoctoral studies in the United States Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1976 to 1977. Mr. Roth has an Honorary Doctorate in Economics from University Neuchâtel, Switzerland in 2009.
