Melanie R. Sabelhaus has more than 30 years of successful small business,
corporate, and federal government experience. She founded and served as
chief executive officer of Exclusive Interim Properties (EIP) from 1986 to
1997, when the company merged with four other companies to form BridgeStreet
Accommodations Worlwide. The company did an IPO
and went public on the
NASDAQ . For 15 years prior to forming her own business,Sabelhaus
served in a variety of sales management positions with the IBM Corporation.
Most recently, Sabelhaus was Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Small
Business Administration (SBA). Former President George W. Bush nominated her
for the post and she was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate.
As SBA Deputy Administrator, Sabelhaus served as second in command in
managing the agency. She was
responsible for policy development, program supervision, and lending for the SBA.
Sabelhaus has devoted her energy and passion toward supporting many non
profits. She has served on numerous boards of directors including the United
Way of Central Maryland, the Alzheimer's Association of Central Maryland,
the Nantucket Historical Association, Women's Leadership Board, Kennedy
School of Government, Harvard University, the Foundation Board of Ohio
University, Johns Hopkins Health Systems Board, Women Philanthropy Institute
at Indiana University and is Vice Chair of the National Board of Governors of the
American Red Cross. Sabelhaus twice co-chaired the National United Way's
Summit on Women in Philanthropy and is the Founding national co-chair of the
Tiffany Circle, Society of women leaders, for the American Red Cross. She is
a member of the Belezian Grove, an international womens organization. She has chaired the Boston Pops on Nantucket supporting the Nantucket Cottage Hospital. She is a trustee of the hospital.
She serves on the corporate board of Duke Realty a publically held company.
