About the Company
Although Albacora has grown to become in tuna production, they remain a family-owned firm with values that reflect their humble beginnings. They began their journey in 1957 when some boats from Bermeo began to operate in the waters of Senegal and Sierra Leone.
In 1962, four families from Bermeo – they were among them- commissioned four new
vessels, equipped to freeze fish on board. This was a major breakthrough, allowing them to keep their catch fresh. All that provided the knowledge to found in 1974 headed by Iñaki Latxaga Bengoetxea the company Albacora.
