Bowdoin’s academics are rigorous and its admissions process extremely selective.

Majors at Bowdoin include traditional subjects like Classical Studies, Art History, Archaeology, English, Music, Philosophy and Religion. More progressive fields like Biochemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Studies and Neuroscience are also available.

In addition to designated majors, Bowdoin offers students the chance to create their own major, combine majors, and do independent study courses within their major.

Many Bowdoin undergraduates also elect to take part in research and many have even gone on to win prestigious fellowships at respected graduate schools. The Coastal Studies Institute is also in close proximity to Bowdoin, providing another source of learning and research.

Student life at Bowdoin is rich in cultural offerings as well, with a recital hall, art museum and two theatres all situated on the Bowdoin campus.

Should students decide to venture off campus and experience another culture, they may also undertake a study abroad program at one of many universities throughout the world.

Since Bowdoin is a private school, a number of students require some form of financial assistance to help pay for tuition and other expenses.
