Delphian School is a private, coeducational K-12 school based in rural Yamhill County, Oregon, near the town of Sheridan. The school has both day and boarding programs for eligible students, with the boarding program recognized as a NAIS Commended Model Residential Program. Delphian recently commemorated its 50th anniversary (1976 - 2026) with a
series of events, including a cake-cutting, a celebration during its annual Alumni Weekend, and a variety of congratulatory letters from community officials.
Delphian School utilizes a unique academic approach that empowers each student, working closely with faculty and advisors, to customize a learning program that best fits their interests without omitting the fundamental competencies they’ll need to excel in future academic or career endeavors. Each program follows a mastery-based approach rather than a memorization- or assessment-based pathway.
At the core of Delphian School’s academic approach is the educational philosophy of L. Ron Hubbard, embodied in his Study Technology structure. Study Technology enables self-directed learning: the ability to teach oneself whatever one wants to learn. Students move through the school’s forms (the equivalent of grade levels) and ultimately complete its graduation requirements through a combination of rigorous academics, hands-on project work, community service, and other nontraditional academic activities that help them apply whatever they’re learning in the classroom to the real world. Each program also covers basic topics across disciplines like history, art, foreign language, science, mathematics, and literature.
In addition to participating in the school’s comprehensive academic programs, students also engage in a wide variety of activities. Students can join sports teams such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, tennis, cross country, tennis, and track and field. And they can participate in diverse clubs and creative pursuits, such as jazz choir, cooking, writing club, robotics, theater, student council, dance, and many more.
As an independent nonprofit organization not affiliated with any government, religious, or interest groups, Delphian School receives operational and capital funds from tuition, fees, and charitable contributions from alumni and supporters. Its parent organization, Delphi Schools, Inc., is licensed to use Applied Scholastics® educational services. With its historic onsite chapel—built in 1934 and now undergoing careful restoration to preserve its beauty and acoustics for future generations—the campus continues to evolve while honoring its nearly century-old roots.
Delphian School is an accredited member of the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS). It also holds membership in the Oregon Federation of Independent Schools, The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS), the Western Boarding Schools Association (WBSA), and Cognia (with full accreditation).
