ESnet provides network communications infrastructure and collaboration services; and high-bandwidth connections that link scientists at national laboratories, universities, and other research institutions, enabling them to collaborate on scientific challenges that include energy, climate science, and the origins of the universe.

network services include IPv4 and IPv6 routing and address space management, and IPv4 multicast networks to support scientific research; Fasterdata, a performance knowledge base that provides the research and education community with a reference for data-intensive science environments, including information on performance tuning, network architectures, troubleshooting methodology, and advanced tools; and On-Demand Secure Circuits and Advance Reservation System (OSCARS) that provide multi-domain, high-bandwidth virtual circuits that guarantee end-to-end network data transfer performance.
