The GSMA is a trade group that represents network operators using GSM technology for their networks.
Spanning 219 countries, the GSMA unites nearly 800 of the world’s mobile operators; and 200 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including: handset makers, software companies, equipment providers, Internet companies, and media
organizations.
Groupe Speciale Mobile (GSM) was formed in 1982 by the Confederation of European Posts and Telecommunications (CEPT) to design a pan-European mobile technology. The first GSM call was made in 1991 by Radiolinja in Finland. In 1998 Global GSM subscribers exceeded 100 million.
The GSMA produces industry-leading events such as the Mobile World Congress and Mobile Asia Congress.
GSMA is headquartered in London.
