inmidtown is a Business Improvement District (BID) representing 560 businesses between the West End and the City. Business Improvement Districts represent individual businesses and their collective views, and are governed by Boards with Directors from the local business community. BIDs are business-led organisations set up to improve the commercial
well-being of a specific geographical area. BIDs deliver on the local issues that impact on business. Examples include improvements to transport systems and public space; reducing crime to enhance safety and security; bespoke offers and joint procurement services and area-wide marketing to drive footfall, dwell time, and reputation. Funded via a levy on Business Rates, BIDs also leverage additional funding for specific projects and delivery. BIDs operate over 5-year terms and have to be re-elected to serve subsequent terms. This democratic ballot process enables businesses to vote and a majority has to be secured for both businesses voting in favour and their collective percentage of rateable value.
