With an enrollment below 1,500 and a student-to-faculty ratio of about 13:1, Lake Forest College provides the quintessential private liberal arts college experience. The school emphasizes professional as well as intellectual development, providing internship and professional development opportunities.
College life at Lake Forest is entwined
with the nearby city of Chicago. The Center for Chicago Programs offers several exciting ways to explore the city.
Lake Forest College’s academics include about 40 undergraduate programs of study. The school takes pride in its personalized instruction; few classes exceed 20 students, and professors do all of the teaching. This results in a more engaging classroom experience based on discussion rather than lectures.
The college has also begun offering graduate degrees. Programs offered currently include master’s degrees in Liberal Studies and in Teaching.
Lake Forest College offers generous financial aid to eligible students. Well-qualified in-state students receive a yearly $12,000 scholarship, while excellent out-of-state students are eligible for the Presidential Scholarship.
The Forester Scholarship, which ranges from $3,000 to $8,000, is based on a variety of criteria: for example, academic achievement, artistic ability, commitment to the sciences or outstanding community service.
