Open Rights Group is a non-profit organization that exists to protect civil liberties wherever they are threatened by the poor implementation and regulation of digital technology.
Since its founding, Open Rights Group has spoken out on copyright term extension, DRM and the introduction of electronic voting in the U.K. It has informed the
debate on data protection, freedom of information, data retention, and the surveillance state.
It is a member organization of European Digital Rights - EDRi and most of its financial support comes
from ordinary people.
Open Rights Group’s core staff is based in London and it is headed by Jim Killock, Executive Director. Its policy is informed by an Advisory Council, consisting of a large group of technology experts, academics, and activists.
Open Rights Group was founded in 2005 by 1,000 digital activists.
