Sand Lake Ambulance (SLA) does not pre-screen for the financial status of patients requesting ambulance service. No matter how much a patient may be able to pay, the organization transports them. SLA is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose fees are based on industry standards. In most insurance policies, ambulance transportation is included.
According to Medicare guidelines, all unpaid fees must be collected 'reasonably'. As a result, this provides for a 'standard practice' when collecting information, instead of showing favoritism to anyone in particular.
