Simplants is an AI-driven medtech startup building a marketplace-enabled sales and procurement platform with inventory optimization for medical device manufacturers and hospitals, eliminating multi-billion-dollar inefficiencies in the industry through data, integration, taxonomy and ontology.
Healthcare systems worldwide are under immense
pressure: rising costs, chronic staff shortages, and overloaded processes. At the same time, the medical device industry — a €600 billion global market — suffers from massive inefficiencies. Nearly €30 billion is wasted every year through manual, siloed, and non-data-driven workflows. Hospitals hold excessive inventory to avoid shortages, manufacturers tie up capital in consignment stock and loaner sets, and both sides spend countless hours on administrative work instead of focusing on patients and innovation.
Simplants was founded in Hamburg in March 2025 by experts from eCommerce, medtech, hospital management, and IT to tackle this structural problem. Backed by €2.2 million in seed funding and supported by the Google for Startups Cloud Program, Simplants is building the digital backbone for medical device sales and procurement — a platform that combines taxonomy, ontology, and transaction logic to turn complexity into clarity.
Impact and Value Proposition
The benefits of Simplants are clear and quantifiable: Hospitals reduce expiry losses, avoid stockouts, optimize storage, and minimize administrative workload. They free up working capital while maintaining or even improving supply security.
Manufacturers lower consignment and loaner levels, reduce capital bound in field inventory, and increase sales efficiency. Sales teams spend less time on manual admin and more on growth.
Healthcare Systems benefit from structural savings: studies confirm that up to 20% of medical device costs can be avoided. This directly reduces waste of public funds and relieves pressure on overstretched health budgets.
Leadership
Simplants is led by CEO & Co-Founder Andreas du Plessis, who has been building digital businesses since the early 2000s — from B2C eCommerce to marketplaces and later B2B platforms. His core insight: a transactional marketplace can only succeed if it rests on fully integrated system connections across all participants, without data or process gaps, and with silos removed. This principle is the foundation of Simplants’ architecture.
Vision
Simplants reduces costs for hospitals and manufacturers by up to 20%, while ensuring higher supply security for patients. Over time, the platform’s ontology and predictive models will become the industry’s data backbone, enabling not only procurement optimization but also predictive diagnostics, robotics integration, and just-in-time logistics.
In short: Simplants is building the infrastructure to make medical device sales and procurement as data-driven, efficient, and scalable as modern eCommerce — and in doing so, helping healthcare systems remain sustainable.
