Circulating tumor cells are important biomarkers for understanding a patient's cancer. They have not been widely adopted in the clinic or in drug development because previous technologies had 2 key limitations.

1) Not enough patients were found to have cells. 2) Captured cells were not viable for downstream ‘omics analysis.
