They have developed a smartphone app which audibly describes event and historical sites when the site is within a predetermined range of the smartphone. The site is sponsored and the information on the site can be changed daily, for instance, a high school (an event site) will state the times of the Christmas concert, the dates and times of the
upcoming ACT tests and any other information, depending on the complexity level preset by the user. The sponsor pays for each listen of the event site and the sponsor message can be changed as frequently as desired. Historical sites are more for the traveler/tourist and can likewise by accessed when within range (from 50 feet for walkers to 200 miles for travelers through Wyoming). Historical sites are also sponsored and the messages can broadcast the day's price of gas and the daily coupon.
In a population demographic of 250,000 persons, assuming a 4% usage rate and one listen (charged at $.05 to the advertiser), the app will generate $182,500 per year. Franchises will be offered at $25,000, generating income in 2015 of $375,000 for 27 projected franchises and $3,375,000 in 2016.
