ZoVolt has been in R&D phase since 2010 under the name Ultima Software Ltd, having collaborated on EU FP7 projects with universities across Europe to form as the basis for the sensor range. In October 2012 the company was officially registered in the UK as ZoVolt Limited, to begin trading.
