Addie Swartz is the CEO and Founder of reacHIRE. She attended Stanford University and Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management.
My life as a serial entrepreneur began with apple pie. At the age of 13, I raised funds for a class trip by selling my homemade pies to local restaurants. I sold a lot of pies and experienced my first taste
of entrepreneurial success.
After completing my education at Stanford and then Kellogg, I worked as a management consultant at Bain for Fortune 500 companies. I mastered branding, building new revenue streams, product management, and creating non-traditional consumer channels at Disney, Reebok, and Lotus Development.
I've founded 3 companies. The first was BrightIdeas, where I developed a network of mothers nationwide to sell children’s educational software to parents, teachers and schools using a “Tupperware” model. I sold that company to a division of Pearson Education (Addison Wesley) in 1996. My next venture was creating "The Beacon Street Girls,” a book series (22 strong), a gift line and a robust website. The books tried to do good as well as entertain. Designed to help girls develop self-esteem and navigate adolescence, each book tackled a different life experience (e.g. divorce, cyber bullying, and underage drinking.) Advice from leading experts was written into the fiction: a study published by the American Academy of Pediatrics showed that Book 6 helped obese girls healthily lose weight. Over 1.5 million books are in print & I sold the book rights to Simon & Schuster in 2007.
