Bernhard completed his PhD in Food/Biotechnology at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany. His work experience includes Unilever Germany, RJR Nabisco, New Jersey and Buehler AG in Switzerland. In 1994 Bernhard joined General Mills, Inc. in Minneapolis and was Chief Scientific Officer and Vice President for Technology Strategy. He led the
development of key enabling technologies resulting in major product innovations. Bernhard authored/co-author over 100 patents, established a Game Changer program and created a novel ‘Cashless Venturing’ initiative, enabling faster and more disruptive innovations. He retired in March 2015 after more than 20 years with General Mills and is now a strategic advisor.
