Camille Richman co-founded HAMAMA because I was inspired by the power of indoor agriculture technologies to improve access to the freshest food possible, no matter the location, season, or geographic location. While developing the Food Computer at the MIT Media Lab (see that work here), we saw a bubbling in the smart garden space and a general
consumer interest in gardens that do all the work for you. The Food Computer and smart gardens on the market were cost-prohibitive due to the sensing and computing hardware necessary for consumers' desired level of automation. Daniel Goodman and I founded HAMAMA and invented Seed Quilts® to create an automated garden powered by clever material combinations and manufacturing techniques, instead of sensors and computers.
