Charles Chao is the Chairman and the CEO of Sina.
Having joined Sina in April 2002, Chao has held several prominent positions in the company including executive vice president from April 2002 to June 2003; Co-Chief Operating Officer from July 2004 to September 2005; Chief Financial Officer from February 2001 to May 2006; the Chairman of the
Board from August 2012; and the Chief Executive Officer since May 2006.
Before Sina, Chao served as an audit manager at Pricewaterhouse Coopers, LLP, an accounting firm, and as a news correspondent at Shanghai Media Group
Chao is currently the Co-Chairman of E-House, a real estate services company; a director of Focus Media, an out-of-home media and advertising network company; and the director of NetDragon Websoft Inc., a game development company.
Chao holds a Master of Professional Accounting degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a master in arts degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Fudan University in Shanghai, China.
