Dr. Craig A. Smith, Ph.D co-founded VLST Corporation in 2004 and also served as its Chief Scientific Officer. Dr. Smith also founded a viral genomics research program at Immunex that exploited the structural genomics of viral systems to uncover important genes which regulate the host immune response. His research accomplishments at
Immunex/Amgen include having cloned a receptor for TNF and engineered a soluble recombinant form termed Enbrel for use in treating autoimmune diseases such as RA. He co-founded and led a research program that discovered novel superfamilies of TNF-related genes, which collectively help orchestrate fundamental immune processes, several of which are in clinical trials for cancer and autoimmune disorders. Dr. Smith serves as Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board at VLST Corporation. He serves as Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Ensemble Therapeutics Corporation. He is a Co-Inventor of Enbrel(R), Amgen's billion dollar arthritis drug. He received his B.S. in Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and his Ph.D. in the Molecular Biology Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles.
