Dong S. Kim is President of PV Business Development, SK Innovation. He has extensive experiences in managing R&D and Engineering activities. He served as the President of Global Technology and CTO at SK Innovation since 2009. He led the development of technologies to maintain a competitive advantage in various areas, including refining,
petro-chemical, lubricant and E&P, and new R&D activities for a sustainable future. Many new R&D projects were launched and commercialized during his tenure. He also introduced the Research and Business Development + Engineering (R&BD+E) program to reduce the cycle time from R&D output to engineering construction. He led the early development of the Li-ion battery business and I/E materials business for SK. He also serves as a board member of two other Venture companies.
Before joining SK Innovation, Dong S. Kim has been with Royal Dutch Shell for 19 years in various positions as a leadership and as a researcher including research engineer, team leader, technical advisor, and Asia-Pacific Engineering regional manager.
During his employment, he has worked on and led various assignments related to mechanical integrity and reliability of plants, sub-sea systems, offshore structures, and unconventional oil including oil shale and oil sand, He managed a global reliability and integrity team which handles the reliability, safety, and mechanical integrity of equipment in many different fields including Offshore, Onshore, Gas plant, Refining, Chemical, Catalyst, Bio, GTL and Wind energy. He served as Chairman of two API sub-committees. Since 2010, he has served as a member of the Technology Sub-Committee for the Korea National Economic Council.
Prior to joining Shell he taught at Yeungnam University in Korea as an Assistant Professor. He also taught at the Ohio State University.
Currently, he serves as adjunct professor for both the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Seoul National University.
