Douglas L. Becker

through the end of 2017. Prior to founding Laureate, he was the Chairman and CEO of its predecessor, Sylvan Learning Systems. Mr. Becker launched many other education companies within Sylvan during this period including Sylvan Prometric. He serves as Direct at rStar Corp. He serves as Member of Advisory board at Mexico Development Partners. He served as Director of Constellation Energy Group from April 1999 to May 2009, and previously served as Former Director of Constellation Energy Group Inc. at the firm. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for Johns Hopkins Medicine and Board Chair of the International Youth Foundation. Mr. Becker has extensive operating, strategy and financial acumen, coupled with an entrepreneurial background and deep domain knowledge in the education sector. Since co-founding Sterling Partners in 1983, Mr. Becker has been instrumental in shaping its strategy, building teams and managing growth of Sterling Partners. Mr. Becker is the Chairman of Sterling portfolio company Laureate Education, Inc. (formerly Sylvan Learning Systems) since February 2000 until January 1, 2018. Since Mr. Becker took the helm in 2000. Mr. Becker also works with Sterling portfolio investment Meritas. He serves as Director at Meritas LLC. In 1983, Mr. Becker co-founded LifeCard. In 1985, LifeCard was acquired by Blue Cross Blue Shield. He holds Doctor of Humane Letters at Honoris Causa at Towson University and Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa at Loyola College. Mr. Becker established the Sylvan Learning Foundation (now known as the Sylvan/Laureate Foundation) in 1997. He served as Vice Chairman and Secretary at CLN, Inc. since February 1996. He served as Director at Educate, Inc. since September, 2004. He was also Founding Chairman of Port Discovery, The Baltimore Children's Museum.
