Ellen Arruda, Ph.D. is the Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Michigan and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Macromolecular Science and Engineering. Dr. Arruda specializes in the development and characterization of functional engineered tissue, such as ligaments, tendons,
myotendinous junctions, bone, and bone/ligament. She also has 20 years of experience in soft tissue biomechanics, polymer mechanics, the design of specialized mechanical testing apparatus and software for soft materials and tissue testing, and the development of soft material constitutive models, including biomaterials.
