Fletcher is the Founder and Technical Advisor of MapCraft and Populus, a data platform for private mobility operators and cities to deliver safer, more efficient streets. Fletcher has been a software engineer and data scientist for two decades. He’s worked at all levels of the stack, first writing database search technology in raw C, then writing
an urban simulation framework in numeric Python, and for the past few years has been working to bring urban planning tools to the web.
In 2015 he turned his interest in cities into a PhD in City Planning from UC Berkeley, after which he co-founded and led the data science team at Synthicity, a startup which simulated alternate urban futures, which was later acquired by Autodesk. After that he founded MapCraft, which helps governments make public policy choices based on how real estate markets are impacted. Now he’s turning to transportation to understand and communicate how the new mobility companies are changing how people move around cities.
When he’s not working, he enjoys yoga, playing guitar, and biking the hills of Oakland.
