Dr. Gary Emmert is the Chief Executive Officer of Foundation Instruments, a company founder, and the Dunavant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Memphis. He holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Miami University (Miami, OH) and M.S./B.S. degrees in Chemistry from Tennessee Tech (Cookeville, TN). Dr. Emmert has over 20 years’
experience working in drinking water. He has published the two definitive books and more than 20 peer-reviewed publications related to on-line monitoring of disinfectants and disinfection by-products, such as trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs).
Dr. Emmert has focused his career on developing chemical analyzers and data handling techniques to monitor THMs and HAAs in drinking water on-site, on-line and in real-time. He is an inventor on multiple patents (US 7,987,701; US 8,076,652; US 8,336,371; US 8,969,093; US 9,581,578; EU 2,429,954; CA 2,723,778) all related to THMs and HAAs monitoring. These analyzers are being commercialized and sold by Foundation Instruments, Inc. to help utilities optimize their drinking water treatment practices, save money and produce high quality drinking water. The first of these analyzers is the Trihalomethanes Rapid Response system (THM-RR) that determines THM concentrations on-site, on-line and in real-time in drinking water treatment plants.
