Grant has been involved in all aspects of private equity investing for more than a decade, focused entirely in the healthcare services and healthcare IT sectors. His private equity investment background includes extensive board-level experience and involvement in all stages of the portfolio company life cycle, from deal sourcing to investment exit.
He began his career with Accenture serving on the merger assessment and implementation teams, where he built managerial, financial, and operational skills in multiple industries. Later he participated in corporate development and venture investing at Compaq Computer Corporation. In 2001, he joined First Analysis Corporation, an expansion-stage private equity, public equity research and investment banking firm in Chicago. At First Analysis, he specialized in research and investment in the healthcare services and healthcare IT sectors, including both venture capital investing and research coverage of publicly traded companies. He led investments in companies including a Mid-Atlantic-based disease management company serving self-insured employer groups and a Florida-based healthcare services distributor focused on diabetic supplies, both of which were successful exits.
Before joining Council in 2008, Grant was a Partner at The Aurora Funds in Durham, N.C. He joined Aurora in 2004 and led their healthcare services and healthcare IT investing efforts targeting expansion-stage companies. He led investments in a Southeast-based, outsourced clinic provider to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (the VA); a Mid-Atlantic-based resource management and patient flow solution provider to hospitals that was a successful exit through an unsolicited acquisition by an industry-leading strategic buyer; a Colorado-based physician revenue cycle management company; and a Northeast-based enterprise care management solution to healthcare payers.
Grant has been selected to be in the inaugural class of the Nashville Health Care Council Fellows. The Fellows initiative engages industry leaders in defining health care's greatest challenges and exploring new strategies to meet the issues identified. The goal is to create a forum for thought leadership and help guide the future of the health care industry - in Nashville and around the country.
Grant is on the Board of Directors of Council portfolio companies EndoChoice, Ingenious Med, and Payment America, and on the Board of Trustees for Hospital Corporation of America's (HCA) flagship Centennial Medical Center. He received his undergraduate degree from Florida State and his MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
