Haomiao Huang is a founding partner at Matter Venture Partners, where he focuses on early-stage investments in hard technology sectors such as robotics, AI, and advanced manufacturing. He began his career as an engineer and entrepreneur, co-founding Kuna Systems and serving as its CTO, leading product development and scaling the company to
profitability. Haomiao joined Kleiner Perkins in 2019, where he leads early-stage hardtech investments in companies like AEye, Ambiq Micro, Chef Robotics, Dexterity, mCube, Ripcord, and SpinLaunch. He previously co-founded Kuna Systems, a home security services company where he was Chief Technology Officer, leading the engineering and product design team to create the first integrated lighting and cloud camera home security product.
In 2012, Haomiao co-founded Topographik & Arc Cameras, developing an at-home 3D body scanner from the Xbox Kinect for custom clothing fit. Both Kuna and Arc Cameras were YC companies from the class of 2014 and 2012, respectively. In addition to founding companies, Haomiao was also on the Berkeley Overmind Starcraft AI team that won first place in the Starcraft AI competition, and he is an active contributor to Ars Technica on AI and robotics. He is a passionate reader on history and politics and loves to cook in his spare time, particularly Texas BBQ. Haomiao was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow at Stanford and received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Aeronautics & Astronautics. He graduated from Caltech with a B.S. (with honors) in electrical engineering with a minor in Control and Dynamical Systems.
