J. Samuel Crowley is a veteran corporate director. He has served on the board of US Cellular (NYSE:USM) since 1998 and has been their Audit Committee Chairman since 2001. He also serves on their Long-term Incentive Compensation Committee. He has been certified as a Board Leadership Fellow by the National Association of Corporate Directors. He has
also done extensive consulting in several industries in the areas of strategy, technology, new concept development, customer service culture, and operational structure and efficiency.
Mr. Crowley was the COO for Gold’s Gym from 2005 to 2007, and served as the SVP of New Ventures for Michael’s Stores, Inc., a publicly held national retailer, for two years prior to that. He was part of the entrepreneurial team that started CompUSA in 1989, serving as VP and then EVP of operations while the company went public in 1992 (NYSE:CPU). CompUSA grew to a $5 billion company and then was sold in 2000.
His early career includes 8 years in the consumer electronics business, four of those years as a vice president with the Federated Group, a publicly held big box retailer. His business career started in 1969 in the retail music business, where he served as a General Manager and then Regional Manager for two major chains- Disc Records and Hastings Books and Records. Mr. Crowley has a B.A. from Rice University and an MBA from University of Texas at Dallas.
