Jarrett Hines is the Co-founder and CEO at Music Tech Works, which creates insanely simple tools to facilitate synch music licensing. Started in 2019 with his partner Bryson Nobles, the company’s focus is to grow the music sync market by organizing who owns the rights to what music and streamlining the process of acquiring a license for that music.
Music Tech Works’ first product is rightsholder.io, a music copyright research platform with a database of more than 60 million songs – one of the largest rightsholder databases in the world.
Nobles and Hines have been working together on various projects for almost a decade. From 2012 to 2016, Hines and Nobles worked together at the digital split sheet app SongSplits; a platform that Nobles created to help songwriters manage their catalogs; and again from 2018-2019 at the digital asset management startup ExchangeGeeks. Music Tech Works combines these previous experiences to develop licensing solutions specifically for the music industry.
Nobles and Hines are already being recognized for their innovative approach and Music Tech Works’ growth potential. The company was chosen to join the 2019-2020 cohort of the Project Music Accelerator in Nashville, TN. In 2020 they were part of the Google For Startups Founders Academy, and in October 2020, was awarded capital from the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund. The company finished up the year by closing a round of funding from Collab Capital, an early-stage investment fund focused on start-ups by Black founders. Collab Capital’s limited partners include hip hop artist Lecrae and Kapor Capital. They also were recently selected to be a part of the Spring 2021 Techstars Music Accelerator program.
Hines comes from a musical background with almost all members of family singing or playing an instrument. However, he chose to pursue business first, with an BA in Economics from the University of Maryland, and MBA in Entertainment, Strategy and Entrepreneurship from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Over the past 20 years, his career included major label artist management, media and entertainment consulting at Accenture, and establishing the Product Management department in the Atlanta office of the global design firm HUGE. Gaining experience in negotiating complex deals and working with artists opened his eyes to all the opportunities that applying technology to the business of entertainment could create
He continues to live in Atlanta with his family. The first album he ever bought was Kriss Kross, and his first concert was Kanye West with John Legend at the University of Maryland.
