Jillian Banfield currently serves as a Professor at UC Berkeley, the Scientific Director of Microbiology at the Innovative Genomics Institute, and a Co-Founder of Metagenomi. She is one of the world's leading experts in genome-resolved metagenomics, a research method that she and her colleagues have used to discover multiple new CRISPR-Cas
systems including CRISPR-CasX and CasY. In recognition of her scientific contributions, she has received many prestigious honors and awards throughout her career, including a MacArthur Fellowship and elections to the National Academy of Sciences, Fellowship of the Royal Society, and Australian Academy of Science.
