John Burton is the Chief Executive Officer at Nintex since 2013. John joined Nintex as Chief Executive Officer after working closely with the company during its expansion planning and its significant financing event with TA Associates and Updata Partners in 2013. In a notable career in the technology and software industry, John has founded
high-growth software firms, co-founded both a highly successful growth equity fund and a leading M&A advisory firm; and served on several public and private boards of directors.
John began his career at Cullinane Corporation, the first NYSE-listed software company.
Immediately prior to Nintex, John was a General Partner and Co-Founder of Updata Partners (updata.com), a $500 million technology growth equity fund. John led highly successful investments in firms in several software and digital sectors and worked closely with the management teams in building sustainable market leaders.
In prior operating roles, John served as Chief Executive Officer at LEGENT Corporation, a market-leading public firm that grew from $100 million to more than $500 million in sales in five years, leading to a cash transaction nearing $2 billion.
Prior to that, John co-founded BST, Inc. and led the company to 50 percent Compound Annual Growth Rate from its bootstrapped origins to the sector leader working with many industry-leading partners, culminating in a highly successful combination with LEGENT Corporation, where he became the Chief Executive Officer.
As an expert in strategy and positioning, John has complemented strong organic growth with acquisition and been involved with more than 30 M&A events and IPOs. John has served on many public and private boards of directors, including Nintex, Coaxis, Interactions, Numara, OTG Software, MapInfo and Banyan Systems, among others.
Active in the technology community, John is the Chairman of the MidAtlantic Venture Association (MAVA) and a Co-Founder of the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), which in 2013 presented him with its Hall of Fame Award for his contributions to the capitol region throughout his career.
John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Boston College.
