John Hamlin is the President and Managing Partner of Bozeman Limited Partnership, an Austin, Texas-based private equity firm. He is currently Chairman of the Board of REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.), an outdoor gear and apparel retailer based in Seattle, Washington and Presiding Director of the Board of Tory Burch LLC, a luxury women’s apparel
retailer based in New York City.
He also serves on the corporate boards of Perficient (NASDAQ:PRFT) a technology consulting company in St. Louis, Missouri; Spiceworks, a privately held network management software company in Austin, Texas; Serena and Lilly, a luxury home goods direct retailer in Sausalito, CA and Food on the Table, an online technology business in Austin, Texas.
Hamlin previously served on the corporate board of Bare Escentuals (NASDAQ:BARE), a publicly-held premium cosmetic company until their acquisition by Shiseido. He was also a corporate board member at Safeco (NYSE:SAFE), a property and casualty insurance company which was sold to Liberty Mutual Insurance.
Prior to founding Bozeman, Hamlin was an Executive Officer and Senior Vice President at Dell Inc., where he reported directly to the CEO and spent 11 years running increasingly larger high growth divisions with a focus on online and direct to consumer businesses.
From 2005 to 2007 he was the Senior Vice President responsible for Dell’s $16 billion global online business. From 2000 to 2005 Hamlin served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Dell’s U.S. Consumer Division, and led that business from #6 to #1 market share in the U.S and $3 billion to $8 billion in revenue. He also served as Vice President and General Manager of Dell’s Home and Small Business division in Japan, and held marketing and operations positions in the U.S. before moving to Japan.
Prior to joining Dell, Hamlin worked in the venture capital field for three years and served as a strategic consultant at Bain & Company for six years.
He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Dartmouth College and has an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a lifelong hunter and collector of classic double shotguns.
