Dr. Kaufman joined OxiCool after a long and successful career with the US Government. Most recently. he was the Basic Research Coordinator and Chief, Agent Characterization and Countermeasures Branch, for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency - Chemical Biological Department (DTRA-CB). He previously served in numerous other technical roles at DTRA,
was a senior research physiologist for the U.S. Navy, a Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Fellow, and served as adjunct faculty at North Carolina State University, Florida Institute of Technology, and the University of Pennsylvania.
He has 30 years of experience directing US government research efforts, including 23 years leading research in thermal and respiratory physiology, individual protective equipment, personal cooling systems, bio-instrumentation, and combustion toxicology for various governmental agencies. Dr. Kaufman served as the official US Navy representative in various bilateral agreements and multilateral organizations involving data exchange and collaboration related to environmental physiology research (including microclimate cooling systems) involving Australia, Canada, Finland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.
He has published 4 book chapters, over 100 publications and presentations, and been awarded 4 patents with 5 additional invention disclosures.Dr. Kaufman holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University, and a B.Ch.E. in Chemical Engineering from Cleveland State University.
