Lucas Budman is the founder & CEO of TruU. Lucas was formerly the CTO of the Advanced Solutions Group at CenturyLink, a Fortune 500 global technology company. CenturyLink acquired his previous company Cognilytics, a machine learning platform company focused on financial risk and cybersecurity, where he was a founding member and CTO. Prior to
CenturyLink’s acquisition, Lucas was founding member and CTO of MyCollege Foundation, a Bill and Melinda Gates funded non-profit whose mission is to provide higher education pathways to low-income young adults. At MyCollege, he applied machine learning to student’s academic behaviors in order to help maximize their potential and ultimate success. Prior to MyCollege, Lucas helped build StorePerform Technologies (acquired by RedPrairie / JDA), a software company with products focused on workforce planning, simulation and optimization. Lucas started his career working on a small startup, BrainPlay.com, which became KBToys.com and at one point was the fourth largest e-commerce site in the world. At KB, he enabled a massively scalable e-commerce site that was praised for its robustness and scalability by the likes of the WSJ. In addition, he was instrumental in developing machine learning algorithms for cross-sell, up-sell, and next product recommendation.
Lucas holds a M.S. in Finance, a B.S. in Computer Science, and an unfinished postgraduate degree in Computer Science - all from the University of Colorado. In his spare time, he is an avid skier, former racer and enjoys road cycling.
