Max Swahn recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, Swanson School of Engineering in April 2018. While there, Max studied Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management. He loves being faced with a problem and knowing that with the proper due diligence and practice, he can solve it. This led Max Swahn to a lengthy list of experiences
with on-campus professional organizations including his research work with the nanoproduct lab.
Be it in a lab, factory or corporate setting, newly employed engineers don’t often have the firsthand experience like the plethora of professional and hands-on experiences Max obtained over the last four years through clubs, internships, and research positions.
Swahn’s role as a researcher at the nanoproduct lab is one experience that stands out in particular. Under the supervision of Dr. Bedewy and Dr. Sanchez, he has worked on research focusing on light-induced sequential self-folding manufacturing. Swahn’s position with the lab strengthened his technical, teamwork and communication skills. He will be able to apply these skills to any professional position.
Outside of school, he blogs about his personal engineering experiences, trends in the engineering field as well as shares tips for young students and industry professionals. While there’s so much you can learn in a classroom, Max felt like he also gained some invaluable skills through application and speaking with fellow engineers. He sees his professional site MaxSwahn.com, as a way to connect with other engineers and share insights with new ones who might not yet have a community of fellow professionals to speak with or hear from.
Max also enjoys weightlifting. He worked as a BodyBuilding.com campus rep and earned the title of one of the top reps in the country through his drive and consistent efforts to improve the brand’s presence on campus. It’s Max’s passion for health and fitness that drove him to start a blog about bodybuilding and the misconceptions associated with it.
