Michael Berumen is a Professor of Marine Science at KAUST in Saudi Arabia. The author of more than 60 articles, Berumen has extensive field experience on coral reefs around the world, and is a participant in active projects in French Polynesia, Australia, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, and Saudi Arabia. His interests include fish populations,
biogeography, climate change impact on coral reefs and whale shark tagging and tracking. Berumen received his doctoral degree in Marine Biology from James Cook University, Australia. He earned his Bachelor‘s degree in Zoology at the University of Arkansas.
