Michael R. Wessel, president of The Wessel Group Inc., was elected to The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company's board of directors on December 6, 2005.
Prior to founding The Wessel Group in 2006, he was a senior vice president with the Downey McGrath Group from 1999 to 2005 and served as executive vice president in 2006.
Wessel was
appointed by Congress to serve as a commissioner of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission in 2001. He became a Fellow of the Economic Policy Institute in 1996.
Wessel began his career as a staff assistant for Congressman Richard Gephardt in 1977 and, in 1984, was named legislative director. In 1989, he was given the role of policy director. He served the Congressman as his general counsel from 1991 to 1998.
