Norman is a bioengineer, with experience across startups and academia. A Ph.D. from UC San Diego, he has over 7 years of research experience at the interface of biology, hardware engineering, and machine-learning. During his Ph.D., Norman developed tools to quantify intracellular and cell-surface RNA, with comparative data against the industry
standard clinical assays. These tools are in the process of being spun-out into a startup. Norman was the founder of EatSafe (2013-2019, San Diego), a food biotech company that developed and patented a miniaturized, portable food-spoilage detector, and received funding from the National Science Foundation and Google (modular phone project). He was also co-founder and CTO of Arena Sciences (2013-2016, San Diego), a consumer biotech company, with a sports/active lifestyle innovation that had among its clients, the San Francisco 49ers, national-level triathletes, and personnel from the US military.
