Patricia Chess is Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Neonatology and Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at University of Rochester.
Patricia's research focuses on lung injury and repair in the neonate and optimizing treatment of neonatal respiratory failure. Clinical trials include adaptation of the immune
response in BPD, cardiac dysfunction in Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernias (CDH), inositol supplementation in ROP and BPD and use of omegaven in HAL-induced cholestasis. A novel respiratory monitor to detect changes in chest motion for patients on high frequency ventilation has been developed in collaboration with BME and is being optimized for clinical use. This research compliments clinical areas of focus related to optimizing treatment of neonatal respiratory failure, especially in CDH, including optimal modes of ventilation, surfactant therapy, iNO, and ECMO.
Patricia earned her M.D. degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1988 and her A.B. degree in Mathematics / Chemistry from Colgate University in 1983.
