Patrick Gallagher is Chancellor and CEO of the University of Pittsburgh, a position he has held since 2014. From 2009 to 2014, he was Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Under Secretary for Standards and Technology at the Department of Commerce. Dr. Gallagher served concurrently as Acting Deputy Secretary of
Commerce from 2013 to 2014. Prior to that, Dr. Gallagher served as Deputy Director of NIST from 2008 to 2009 and as Director of the NIST Center for Neutron Research from 2004 to 2008. He first joined NIST in 1993 as a physicist. Dr. Gallagher received a B.A. from Benedictine College and an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
