The initiation of the business concept and visionary behind Axial is Dr. Paul McCurry. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and has clinical practice experience in anesthesia, interventional pain management and emergency medicine. As an interventional pain management physician, he obtained certification for state-of-the-art
minimally invasive spine procedures, measured their quality-based outcomes, and incorporated the results into his clinical algorithm. As a senior consultant with Quorum Health Resources, the largest hospital management company in the US, Dr. McCurry used his clinical algorithm to work extensively with university teaching hospitals, tertiary care centers, and not-for-profit community hospitals to improve their quality outcomes in surgery and pain management. In these engagements, he served as mediator and contract negotiator between physician groups and hospital executives; analyzed surgical throughput data as it related to national benchmarks, instituted quality assessment of outcomes, and evaluated IT infrastructure data collection techniques. He was a key player on the business development team and assisted QHR in securing their largest contract to date. In 2004 Dr. McCurry joined MedSolutions as medical director where he has been responsible for shaping national accreditation criteria for radiologists and for the largest network of imaging centers in the US. He has been instrumental in provider network development in new geographic markets by conducting multiple on-site physician forums and supporting client interactions. As subject matter expert, Dr. McCurry contributes to product development for spine imaging and pain management by utilizing evidence-based imaging guidelines. Dr. McCurry's expertise in pain management, provider credentialing and utilization management enables him to substantially impact the quality and cost associated with this area of medicine. With the founding of Axial Healthcare, he has created a clinical decision support platform that furthers the IHI triple-aim of providing cost-effective, quality-based treatment pathways that improve health care delivery by optimizing patient outcomes while streamlining physician workflow.
