Pete is Chairman of Atlanta Equity, a private equity firm that he co-founded with two partners to support the growth and development of entrepreneurial businesses.
He earlier served as chairman and chief executive officer of Atlanta based Georgia-Pacific Corporation from 1993 – 2006. He joined the company in 1988 as senior vice president
(pulp and printing paper) and was promoted to executive vice president the following year. He was elected president and chief operating officer in 1991.
Prior to joining Georgia-Pacific, Pete served in executive management positions with Mead Corp. for 11 years.
He began his career with Westvaco, and worked for 10 years in management roles with Weyerhaeuser Company.
A native of Brunswick, Georgia, Pete holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Georgia and master’s degrees in pulp and paper technology and chemical engineering from the University of Maine.
He serves as an outside director on the board of SunTrust Banks, Inc. and the Georgia Aquarium, in addition to being Chairman of the Board of Grady Memorial Hospital Corporation.
Pete has been active in his community for years, having served as Chairman of the Metro Chamber of Commerce, Central Atlanta Progress, the Atlanta Committee for Progress, the Atlanta Action Forum, the Commerce Club and the Atlanta Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
His leadership has been recognized by many organizations including the King Center Salute to Greatness Award (1999), the Brotherhood Award by the Council of Christians and Jews, and Business Hall of Fame by Georgia State University.
