Peter Lichtlen is a Co-Founder and the Chief Medical Officer of Numab. He holds an MD as well as a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology both from the University of Zurich. In 2000 he joined ESBATech AG to hold various positions in preclinical and clinical research. In 2004 he took the position of the Medical Director and Head of Clinical Research and
Development leading several preclinical development projects with antibody fragments in oncology, inflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases.
He developed ESBATech’s “body compartment concept” aimed at optimal therapeutic exploitation of the pharmacokinetic properties of antibody fragments. Applying this concept to projects, he designed and lead clinical development programs in ophthalmology and rheumatology with ESBA105 and ESBA1008, TNF-inhbitory and VEGF-inhibitory antibody fragments, respectively.
This clinical program in ophthalmology proved to be a major promoting factor for the 589-million USD acquisition of ESBATech by Alcon in September 2009. Since 2011, Peter is the Senior Medical Officer and the Vice President European Operations at Sucampo. Peter has an international clinical network in ophthalmology, rheumatology and inflammatory diseases and is the author of various peer-reviewed scientific publications.
