Dr. Ron Buckanovich is a physician-scientist. He completed his medical training at Cornell University and received a Ph.D. from the Rockefeller University in New York. He currently is a Professor of Medicine and of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). As co-leader of the Hillman Breast
and Ovarian Cancer Program and Co-Director of the UPMC Ovarian Cancer Center of Excellence, he actively leads clinical and translational research efforts. His research goals are to develop novel therapeutics and diagnostics for women with gynecological cancer and he is a pioneer in the field of ovarian cancer stem cells. He has received multiple honors in recognition of past work. Examples include a Clinical Investigator Award from the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, New Innovator Directors Award. Dr. Buckanovich has been inducted into the prestigious American Society of Clinical Investigation (ASCI).
