Seema Verma is the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Oracle Health and Life Sciences. She’s currently overseeing the rollout of Oracle’s next-generation electronic health record system (EHR). The EHR leverages Oracle’s cutting-edge cloud and AI capabilities to offer a more natural and intuitive experience for all users. She’s also
responsible for Oracle’s portfolio of clinical and clinical trial applications.
Seema’s journey to her current position started at the front lines of the healthcare system. She began her career in Washington, D.C., working with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) on HIV/AIDS policy on behalf of state public health departments. She eventually transitioned to working at the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County (HHC), a municipal corporation. The HHC operated the public hospital, community health centers, a nursing home, and the local public health department. In this role, she saw firsthand the day-to-day issues between providers and patients.
In 2001, Seema founded a health policy consulting firm that helped states and the private industry with various healthcare issues. She immediately began working with the state of Indiana on a state planning grant to address the uninsured. In conjunction with Former Governor Mitch Daniels and his team, Seema was the architect of the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP). HIP was one of the first Medicaid consumer-directed health programs for the uninsured using Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Seema also assisted with negotiating the approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), foreshadowing her future role as administrator of the CMS.
Her continued success in Indiana led to her nomination to serve as the CMS Administrator, where she was confirmed in 2017 on a bipartisan basis. In this role, she oversaw health coverage for more than 140 million Americans through Medicare, Medicaid, and the Health Insurance Exchanges.
Seema’s decades of experience have given her foresight into critical healthcare challenges. At Oracle Health, her work focuses on addressing the needs of healthcare professionals while restoring the patient care experience. This includes reducing the administrative burden that clinicians often face and empowering patients with the resources they need to take control of their health journey.
Seema ranked 47th on Modern Healthcare’s “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” list in 2024. She was also recognized as one of the nation’s “Top 25 Women Leaders in Healthcare” in 2019. She has written extensively about a range of healthcare issues and has been published in the Wall Street Journal, Health Affairs, The Washington Post, Newsweek, and USA Today, among others. She has also spoken on several news networks, including Fox News, Fox Business, CNN, CBS, ABC, and more.
Seema is involved in various philanthropic endeavors. She is a member of the Board of Directors at Eskenazi Health Foundation and the USC Schaeffer Center Advisory Board at the University of Southern California. She is also on the Board of Directors at ACRO and a Board Advisor at TapestryHealth.
