In 2010 Simon founded The Sandpit; an exciting new business proposition aimed at finding, funding and commercialising great technology products, specifically in the digital marketing space. The Sandpit fills a niche between traditional funding models such as Angel funding and VCs with a belief that early stage tech businesses can often create
revenues far sooner than they expect, thus not being distracted (often fatally) by the funding cycle at the wrong time. Driven by a strong belief that revenue is better than pure investment, The Sandpit becomes an active partner with the technology founders, bringing revenue and business growth guidance…in some ways like the Private Equity model, but for start-ups!
Simon is a multilingual entrepreneur who, prior to founding The Sandpit, set up and built six businesses over the past 12 years. Based in Barcelona for 8 years, Simon founded and launched successful companies into the IT, advertising, publishing and fashion sectors in both Spain and the UK, before moving back to London and into the postal sector where he was responsible for launching ViaPost from concept through to revenue-generating growth stage, including raising a total of £2M in funding through the toughest markets of 2007-2009 before handing over the reins to Manchester-based majority owners in 2010. His key skills are based in fundraising, sales, marketing, commercial and strategic business development.
The Sandpit to date has taken on board 5 businesses and launched a sister company Sandpit Lab with now operations in the UK (London), the US (New York) and Central America (San Jose, Costa Rica).
