A former Member of the Federal Communications Commission, Susan Ness is Senior Fellow at the SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations, a think tank that is part of the Johns Hopkins University’s Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies.
Susan is also Founder of Susan Ness Strategies, a communications policy consulting firm.
At
SAIS, Susan focuses on ICT and e-commerce issues in the transatlantic partnership and chairs a global conference on boardroom diversity.
Susan served on the board of Gannett Co, Inc (NYSE-GCI), and previously served on two other public company boards.
Susan is a Member of the Board of Directors at Vital Voices Global Partnership, an NGO that identifies and invests in extraordinary women leaders worldwide.
Susan is a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Committee for Economic Development (CED), and an affiliated expert of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation.
From 2005 to 2007, Susan was founding President and Chief Executive Officer at GreenStone Media, LLC, which produced award-winning syndicated talk radio programming targeting women.
Susan was Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Annenberg School of the University of Pennsylvania from 2001 to 2002. President Clinton appointed Susan to the FCC, where she served from 1994 to 2001.
Prior to joining the FCC, Susan was Corporate Vice President of American Security Bank, where she specialized in the telecom and media sectors.
Susan is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, the Federal Communications Bar Association, and Women Corporate Directors (WCD).
Susan received a Bachelor’s degree from Douglass College, her J.D. from Boston College and her MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
