Vince Harris founded Metamagnetics, Inc. in 2009 upon innovations in rf materials and devices developed in part at Northeastern’s Center for Microwave Magnetic Materials and Integrated Circuits (CM3IC) – a Center established in 2004 that is internationally renowned for its advancements in technologies related to magnetoceramics and their
applications in sensing, communications, and radar. He presently holds the position of Metamagnetics’ Chairman of the Board of Directors.
He has had a distinguished career as an engineer, scientist, inventor, educator and entrepreneur for nearly 30 years. He holds positions of University Distinguished Professor, William Lincoln Smith Chair Professor, and Director of the CM3IC at Northeastern University (Boston, MA USA). Prior to holding these positions, he was a member of the technical staff, Head of the Complex Materials Section, and Head of the Materials Physics Branch at the Naval Research Laboratory (Washington, DC).
His professional preparation includes the Ph.D. (NEU-EE), M.Sc. (NEU-ME, MSE), M.Sc. (U. Md.-Eng. Mgt.), M.Eng. (U. Penn.-Exec. Tech. Mgt.), and B.Sc. (NEU-ME) degrees.
Among his international prizes and awards, Harris was recipient of the Minerals, Metals and Materials (TMS) Society Distinguished Scientist Award (2016), the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Lee Hsun Research Award for Seminal Contributions to Materials Science (2013), and IEEE Distinguished Lecturer (2007). He has been elevated to Fellow of the AAAS, IEEE, American Physical Society, Institute of Engineering and Technology (GB), Institute of Physics (GB), and the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). In 2016, Harris was named a Fulbright Scholar.
He routinely serves as an expert consultant to the NAS/NAE, Department of Defense, DARPA, Department of Energy, NIST, National Science Foundation, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and others, in areas of national and international science, technology, and commerce.
Harris’ proudest accomplishment is in the training of more than fifty engineering and entrepreneurial professionals that have become leaders in the S&T community – some of whom enable Metamagnetics to achieve its success.
